Ballari: Child chokes to death after swallowing balm box

Ballari, Apr 18: Many families use Menthoplus balm tin container costing two rupees for relief from cold and cough. A nine-month-old baby swallowed the tin on Thursday night and choked to death.

The incident happened at Nidugurthi village of Sandur taluk in the district. Bharathi, first daughter of Kaibasavaiah and Ningamma couple, when playing with the box, swallowed it and could not breathe.

When her mother was busy with household work, the baby was playing with other children in front of their house. After accidentally the box got stuck in its throat, the baby began to writhe. Immediately, the parents took the baby to the government hospital at Kudligi but the baby passed away on the way.

A case relating to this death was registered in Kudligi police station.
