Avoid press meets, advises Chennai Press Club

Chennai, Apr 19 (IANS): With a couple of city based journalists testing positive for coronavirus, Chennai Press Club has urged the government and politicians to avoid press meets.

The Chennai Press Club also urged the contacts of the two journalists to come forward and go for coronavirus infection tests.

Of two journalists, one is purportedly working with a Tamil daily and the other with a Tamil television channel.

Wishing a speedy recovery for the two journalists, the club's Joint Secretary Bharathi Thamizhan, in a statement, said the government and politicians should avoid direct media interactions.

If the government and the politicians hold press meets, then in order to protect the journalists, the media organisations should take a firm stand, Thamizhan urged.

He said journalists also fall under high risk categories of contracting coronavirus.
