Udupi, Apr 25: Udupi Congress task force committee president U R Sabhapathi said that the Congress task force committee in Udupi had distributed nearly 20 tons of rice and other essentials to 2,500 poor people who had not received any items during the lockdown period.

Addressing to the media on Saturday April 25, at Congress Bhavan, Sabhapathi said, “We have already distributed nearly 2,500 kits to the needy in various constituencies, there are still many people who have not received the kits nor are able to buy from ration shops, we are trying to reach out to such people. These kits have been sponsored by Pejawara Math, Puthige Math, Admar Math and various other donors. We are planning to distribute nearly 10,000 kits through various district Congress presidents."

Speaking about the measures taken by the governments Sabhapathi said, “The state and central government have not given any benefit to the people. We have only seen their statements through newspapers and media but there are people who have not received any benefits yet."

Commenting on the food distribution by Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat he alleged stating, "Even Udupi MLA had told that they would provide food to all the needy but they are distributing the food provided by Ambalpady temple and nothing else. There are nearly 8,000 needy in the city but food reaches only to 2,000 needy people.”

Udupi district Congress president Ashok Kumar Kadavoor, former MLA Kaup Vinay Kumar, Congress members M A Gaffor, Kishan Hegde Kolkebail, Veronica Cornelio, Prakyath Shetty, Yathish Karkera, Mahabala Kunder, Ramesh Kanchan, Udyavara Nagesh Kumar Udyavar were among others who were present on the occasion.
