Kalaburagi, Apr 29: It has been revealed that Kalaburagi district deputy commissioner B Sharat, was transferred under political pressure. After the people, as well as top-level officials, came out in the open against the transfer of the officer, who has been appreciated for hard work towards the eradication of coronavirus infection from the district, it was cancelled by the chief minister within an hour, it is learnt.

After Kalaburagi accounted for the first-ever death due to coronavirus infection in the entire country, Sharat had formed a team of efficient officials and engaged in working against the pandemic. Now the people are angry at the people's representatives who pressurised the concerned to shift the officer out of Kalaburagi.

In a recent meeting of district in-charge ministers, a people's representative had suggested for the creation of a corona committee but Sharat had voted against the formation of any new committee as 30 committees are already in existence. The people's representative then reportedly got wild at the disrespect shown to his suggestion and got Sharat transferred.

Within minutes, facts, figures and reports suggesting good work done by the DC reached the chief minister, Opposition leaders too urged the chief minister to withdraw the transfer order. This led to the CM rethinking the transfer order and thereby, withdrawing the same within an hour.

Sharat had earned a good reputation for having organized the 85th All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelan in a grand way. He has sent his wife and children to hometown and toils hard till 1 am in the night to fight against coronavirus. Many therefore asked the chief minister not to transfer him. Reportedly, the CM also called Sharat over the phone and asked him to continue with his good work as his transfer order has been cancelled, within an hour of its issuance.

Sharat said that the chief minister had called him after his transfer order was received, to convey that the order had been cancelled. "He advised me to continue working here. As the district is facing critical times, I do not want to say anything else," he said.
