Bantwal, Apr 29: A former soldier died in his sleep at his residence in Pallottu, Panjikallu village, rural police station limits.

The deceased was Richard Fernandes (50). He was unmarried. He had gone to sleep on Saturday night, April 25 and never woke up. He used to fetch milk from nearby milk dairy every day. The locals had enquired about him with his house people who had answered that he did not get up from sleep since Saturday.

The neighbours who grew curious went inside his house only to get stink of his dead body. He had died five days ago. He has two older sisters staying in the house who are mentally sick. Therefore they were not worried about the brother’s death. The sisters are spinsters.

A police complaint was lodged in Bantwal rural police station later. Police station sub-inspector Prasanna and staff visited, registered a case of unnatural death and took further action.

Loretto church parish priest and members of church pastoral council conducted the last rites as per Catholic religious customs.
