Puttur: Tahsildar warns contractors abandoning migrant workers without information

Puttur, Apr 30: Puttur tahsildar Ramesh Babu, has warned people and construction contractors who hire migrant workers either as domestic help or construction and other workers, and then leave them high and dry when they want to go back to their homes. He said that those who abandon such workers without providing information to the taluk administration will face criminal case which will be registered in police stations by the taluk administration.

Babu noted with concern that there have been numerous instances of migrant workers getting dumped near the taluk office and at the Devaramaru field of Mahalingeshwara temple here. "These people make these workers serve them the entire year, and then suddenly dump them to fend for themselves without informing the officials when the workers need help the most. This is wrong. The owners and contractors found doing these things will face action," he warned.

He said that at present, 20 migrant workers have been housed in the community hall of the municipality. "For them, food and mask arrangements have been made," said environment engineer of the municipality Guruprasad. Health inspectors of the municipality S Kiran and Ramachandra, extended facilities to the workers facing distress situation.
