Karkala, May 6: Police personnel of the rural station here have arrested a person who has been accused of raping a minor girl and causing her pregnancy. The girl in question is from Byndoor. The arrested accused happens to be Vijaya (20), who stayed in a rented house near Belman.

The victim had visited the residence of her aunt at Belman a year back. It is said that on this occasion, the youth led her to his rented home, and cajoled her into agreeing to have sex with him. Since the last two months, the accused had begun to live separately with the girl at the rented house. He also had tied a thread fastened to the customary 'Taali' around the girl's neck and had convinced her that this is tantamount to marrying her.

On the basis of a complaint filed by the parents of the girl, the police arrested the accused. A case in this connection has been registered in Karkalal rural police station.
