Bangalore: Geetha Nagabhushan to chair Sahitya Sammelan at Gadag

Bangalore, Jan 7: Renowned short story writer Geetha Nagabhushan has been chosen the president of the 76th annual ‘Akhila Bharatiya Kannada Sahitya Sammelana’ to be held at Gadag. The literary will be held on February 19 and 20.

It is the first time the meet is being held at Gadag since 1961 and that a writer from Gulbarga has been chosen as meet president in the Kannada Sahitya Parishat's 90-year history.

The Gulbarga-based writer has written novels, poetry, drama and essays. However, she is known for her thought-provoking writing on feminist thoughts. Geetha, a 68-year-old retired schoolteacher has written 31 books. Her novel `Baduku' was selected for Central Sahitya Academy award. Two of her novels were made into Kannada films. Her latest novel `Kage Muttitu' has been well received by critics and readers.

Geetha has also served as the president of the Karnataka Sahitya Academy earlier. She is a recipient of the Nadoja award instituted by Hampi Kannada University. Gulbarga University has presented her with an honorary doctorate.
