Udupi, May 8: State government had not given permission to residents of the state who live or work in Mumbai to come back to their native district of Udupi. However, now the district administration has given the go ahead.

Conditional permission was granted for the arrival of Mumbai Udupians after the special discussion that was held in the meeting chaired by MP Shobha Karandlaje, which was conducted at the office of DC on Thursday, May 7.

Nearly 5,000 people have registered their names under the Seva Sindu E Pass to enter the Udupi district. Out of this 4,000 are residents of Mumbai. In total, 10,000 people are expected to arrive in the district.

People who arrive from Mumbai have to be in quarantine at schools, colleges and hostels. Then they need to be in quarantine in their residence for another 14 days. Those who feel that residing in school and colleges is difficult can opt for stay in lodges or hotels at their own cost.

Shobha Karandlaje spoke to CM Yediyurappa and chief secretary in this regard over the phone and said that there is pressure on the district administration to allow Udupi residents, who live in Mumbai, to be allowed to arrive to their native place. She also convinced the CM and chief secretary that the responsibility of keeping the people arriving in quarantine will be taken care by the district administration and the MLAs of respective constitution. Later state government gave the go ahead. This information was shared by MLA K Raghupati Bhat who was also a part of the meeting.

MLAs Sunil Kumar, Halady Srinivas Shetty, B M Sukumar Shetty, Lalaji Mendon, deputy commissioner G Jagadeesh, SP Vishnuvardhan, ZP CEO Preeti Gehlot, district medical officer Dr Sudheerchandra Sooda, Nodal officer Dr Prashant Bhat and president of coastal development authority Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde were present in the meeting.
