Belagavi: Muslim lady undergoes Linga Deekshe, adopts Lingayat faith

Belagavi, May 8: On Thursday May 7, Shivabasava Swamiji of Virakta Math at Hukkeri in the district performed formalities to enable a Muslim lady to adopt Lingayat faith.

A Lingayat youth from Kabbur in Chikkodi taluk had fallen in love with a Muslim girl from the same village and married her. He also had got the marriage registered at the office of the sub-registrar at Chikkodi in which the lady's age has been mentioned as 18 year 6 months.

The parents of the youth were not agreeable to accept their daughter-in-law into the family unless she was ordained into Lingayat faith which they follow. In view of this tricky situation, the youth met the Swamiji at Virakta Math and explained the problem he was facing. He also requested the Swamiji to admit his wife into the Lingayat faith by giving her the customary 'Linga Deeksha'.

The Swamiji agreed to the request and admitted her into the Lingayat faith as per customs.

    May the couple have blessed married life. It is strange that parents can now accept her as daughter -in- law, just because she embraced their religion. How strange this religion plays a role. Can't they still live together (because they love each other) and practice different religions which is very common in developed countries. It is love that keeps them together not religion.
    I remember some good people belongs to good groups were decrying about a Hindu girl accepting another religion for the sake of marriage. What they would say here?? Since 2014, everything is changed but in India we did had the right choose the religion that one prefers once they are adults but this saffron jokers don't understand the meaning of freedom. I remember speaking to a Bhakth in the US, who was giving me lectures about converting to another religion is like changing your mother. I asked him, how did you changed your mother India to mother America to which he was silent. These same shameless jokers will run out of the country if they get opportunity and at the earliest possible time, apply for citizenship of that country. No problem in changing that mother but religion is not changeable for these jokers.
