Kundapur, May 8: “Our people outside the country, state and districts are facing instability. It is but natural for them to be eager to return home. It is our duty to get them quarantined when they reach here. We will extend our cooperation systematically. We are prepared to respond even when officials call us in urgent situations,” said Kundapur Vidhan Sabha MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty.

He was speaking at a meeting with officials held in Kundapur taluk auditorium on May 8 about quarantining the people arriving from other states and districts.

“Let there be a wide area for quarantine. Let there be basic facilities. They should get food and snacks on time. The quarantine centres should be close by. If the centres are close to their residences, their family will be able to bring clothes and other necessary items. But, do not allow frequent visits from their relatives. They should be allowed to meet them only on the completion of the quarantine period,” he said.

“As this is a national calamity, we are prepared to respond any time,” said MLA B M Sukumar Shetty. “It is our responsibility to bring back our people from other states and districts and get them quarantined. Udupi district should continue as corona free district. Therefore, quarantine should be conducted with proper awareness. There are sufficient facilities in Kollur for quarantine. Up to 5,000 people can be accommodated there. It will be convenient as the temple serves food,” he said.

The officials explaining the quarantine arrangements said that more than 1,500 people will be arriving from other states. “We have spoken to heads of 29 lodges. Arrangements for government quarantines can be made in Anegudde temple, Kollur and Mandarthi temples. Those who are getting quarantined in lodges will have to pay bills on their own,” they said.

Drinking water problem:

“As the drinking water problem is becoming acute, taking immediate action in this connection is vital,” said MLA B M Sukumar Shetty. “Nobody should face the problem of drinking water,” he said.

Assistant commissioner K Raju, ASP Hariram Shankar, tahsildars and various department officials were present.
