Udupi: Illegal slaughterhouse raided, three arrested

Udupi, May 9: Police personnel of Shirva station raided an uninhabited house belonging to Hajabba near Paiyyar, Kalathur, on Friday, May 8, and found that an illegal slaughterhouse was in operation there. They arrested three persons who were selling beef prepared by slaughtering cows.

During the raid, two of the accused succeeded in fleeing. A cow that was ready for being slaughtered was rescued. Arrangements were made to hand over the cow to a cattle shelter.

The arrested accused happen to be Badruddin, Sheikh Abdulla, and Lava Shetty. The arrests were made by Shirva station house officer Shreeshaila Muragod. Hatchet, machete and some other equipment used for cutting the flesh, weighing scale, and beef packets weighing about 80 kg were taken into custody by the police. A case in this connection was registered in Shirva station.
