Mangalore : DC Warns Against Misuse of Beacon Lights

Mangalore, Jan 9 (DHNS): The release said that some officials, Corporation and Board Chairmen/Presidents were found to be using beacon lights on their vehicles... 

In the wake of increase in number of cases of misuse of beacon lights on vehicles, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner has issued a direction which states that beacon lights can be used only by the following persons:

Governor of Karnataka, Chief Minister of Karnataka.
Chairman of Legislative Council,
Assembly Speaker,
Lokayukta,
Judges of High Court,
Cabinet Ministers of Karnataka,
Leaders of Opposition in Karnataka Legislative Assembly and Council,
Upa Lokayukta,
Minister of State and Deputy Minister of Karnataka State,
MP,
Chief Secretary to Government of Karnataka State,
Additional Chief Secretary to Government,
Principal Secretary to Government Home Department,
Principal Secretary/Secretary to Govt,
Transport department,
Director General of Police,
Regional Commissioners of Karnataka State,
Special Inspector General of Police and Commissioner of Police, Bangalore city,
Deputy Inspector General of Police in the police ranges of Karnataka,
Mayors of City Corporation of Karnataka state,
Transport Commissioner of Karnataka state,
Deputy Commissioners and District Magistrates of districts of Karnataka,
SP of districts,
Deputy Commissioner of Police in Karnataka,
Assistant Commissioners,
DySPs,
ACPs,
Chief Commissioner of Customs,
Commissioner of Central Excise, Bangalore,
Commissioner of Central Excise III,
Commissioner of Central Excise, Belgaum,
Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore,
State Election Commissioner of Karnataka,
Chief Information Commissioner of Karnataka State.

The release said that some officials, Corporation and Board Chairmen/Presidents were found to be using beacon lights on their vehicles.

The use of beacon lights unnecessarily create traffic problems as well as security problems, read the release and said that  if any Board/Corporation vehicles are using beacon lights, then it must be removed. If non eligible persons are found using beacon lights, then action will be initiated against them.

If VIPs are not found travelling in the designated vehicle, then the driver of the vehicle either should remove the beacon light or cover it with a black cloth, the release stated.

    Yes it is true that the MCC Chairman and the MUDA Chairman have beacons on their cars- this has been going on for years. Why even ex Mayors keep the beacons on their cars after they have demitted office. Add to this, these cars are used by staff members of the above offices without the beacon being covered or the BIG board in the front proudly proclaiming the designation of the person. By the way, Mr DC, what about these cars that have "GOVERNMENT OF INDIA" (in big block letters) and then in small letters "undertaking" on them- cars belonging to banks and other such institutions. Is this to get some benefit when all these vehicles are used by branch managers, etc. There surely must be some rule on this too which we the public should be informed about- these vehicles breach the rules by parking in no parking areas, etc
