Mangalore: DC Warns Hotels Against Throwing Garbage by Roadside

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jan 9: Reportedly, the City Corporation had issued notices to two hotels, Goldfinch and Maharaja, to stop disposing of their waste by the roadside. However, these hotels have continued to throw their garbage and waste on the roadside. The district administration has taken a serious view of this violation, and Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC), Ponnuraj, has warned that steps will be initiated to cancel the licences of these hotels, if they do not stop this practice forthwith.

Through a release, the DC informed that Hotel Srinivas and Hotel Rangoli in B C Road within Bantwal municipality also have been causing environmental pollution by heaping the refuse by the roadside. The DC added that the chief officer of the municipality there has been instructed to take steps against the erring hotels.  He also has warned that steps will be taken not only against the hotel owners concerned, but also against the chief officer, if it is observed that the hotels have not done away with their earlier practice.

He said that large-sized hotels, organizations etc., have to take measures to transport and deposit their waste products in the dumping yard on their own. Ponnuraj has also informed that those who affix wall posters or write graffiti in public places will also be acted against. He noted that those who want to paste their posters and otherwise use the public places, have to obtain permission in writing from the respective local bodies, municipalities or city corporations before doing so. They have also been instructed to strictly adhere to the terms of the permissions so obtained, and policies ruling advertisements, he said.

Honable DC Sir, will you punish our municipality for burning solid waste by the roadsides everyday, flouting the High Court Rulings, causing asthma in people living in BCRoad & surrounding areas. First let the civic authorities follow the rules, then punish all those people who break the laws irrespective of whether they are individuals or commercial establishments.

If one is caught breaking a law he is immediately fined/punished. If one is caught speeding he/she is immediately fined. But if reputed hotels/ restaurants break the law, like throwing their garbage on the roads, they are 'warned". How much do they pay under the table to the MCC garbage dept to look the other way as they flout the law. I would have personally liked to see the DC fining them heavily in the first place but that is not in the news item?
