Mandya: Constable who tried to settle fight gets attacked, injured

Mandya, May 11: An on-duty policeman who was sent with the task of addressing a fight between a couple was attacked and injured by a person. The incident happened around midnight on Saturday at Arekal Doddi village within the limits of Besagarahalli police station limits in Maddur taluk.

The head constable of Besgarahalli station C P Shivaraju was allegedly attacked by Venkataswamy son of Chikkachannayya from Arekal Doddi village.

At around 11.30 pm on Saturday, a fully drunk Venkatawamy picked up a quarrel with wife, Asha. As quarrel intensified and Venkataswamy turned violent and threatened to kill her, Asha called Mandya control room seeking to save her life. The control room got in touch with Besagarahalli station. Shivaraju and a home guard volunteer were deputed to settle the issue. Reportedly, Venkataswamy developed cold feet at their sight and hid behind a heap of hay.

After some time, Venkataswamy in a drunk state suddenly attacked Shivaraju with an axe. Shivaraju suffered a deep gash on his head. He was admitted into the taluk hospital. Accused Venkataswamy has been arrested and a case was registered in Besagarahalli police station.
