Mangaluru: Heavy rain with strong wind pounds parts of coast

Mangaluru, May 14: Various parts of the coastal districts received heavy rain on Wednesday afternoon May 13 for about an hour. Lightning inflicted losses at some places.

Places like Dharmasthala, Beltangady, Naravi and Kadirudyavar received rain along with a strong breeze. Guripalla, Kanyadi got light showers. Moodbidri received normal rainfall for 20 minutes. Parts of Mangaluru taluk and Bajpe got rain with wind.

Lightning killed a calf at Karumbaru in Sarve village in Puttur taluk. The lightning that struck the residence of Veeraplpa Gowda Karumbaru also burnt down the electrical wiring system of the house and damaged electrical equipment.

The house of a local, Leelavathi, was damaged after lightning struck her house on Wednesday evening at Ramanagara, Uppinangady. On account of a short circuit, power connection was damaged. Five people were inside the house at the time, and Leevathi had become unconscious briefly due to the lightning.

However, the quantum of rainfall was not enough to make any appreciable impact on the temperature level in the coastal region.
