Bengaluru: State achieves 94.51% targets under SC/ST Special Training Programme

Bengaluru, Jun 15: The Social Welfare Department of Karnataka has achieved 94.51% of the targets under the Special Training Programme (STP) for the Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Tribes beneficiaries during the year 2019-20.

This information was given to Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa by the Social Welfare Department officials during the review of the performance through video conferencing from his home office, Krishna, in Bengaluru on Monday.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to conduct a survey on the demands and requirements of the pre-matric students of the SC/ST communities for hostel facilities.

On being informed by the officials that the appointment of 660 teachers and 183 lecturers for pre-university colleges and the process of appointing another 993 teaching and non-teaching staff was underway, Yediyurappa asked that the matter should be expedited in coordination with the Education Department.

He also asked the officials to give priority for energisation of the 8,911 units under the Ganga Kalyana Scheme. As many as 8,270 borewells had been sunk under the scheme during 2019-20 and a total of 10,211 borewells had been given power connection.

The taxi distribution under the Airavatha scheme was successful in the urban areas, the Chief Minister said and wanted the officials to ensure that goods transport vehicles could be distributed in other areas.

As many as 11,772 leather artisans had been provided financial assistance of Rs 5,000 each through LIDKAR during the COVID 19 lockdown period.

The Chief Minister asked the officials to ensure that the health aspects of the students in residential schools and those staying in hostels run by the Department must be given priority. He noted that over 42,000 persons had taken quarantine facilities in the department hostels and residential schools.

Deputy Chief Minister Govind M Karjol, who is also the Public Works Minister, as well as Chief Secretary T M Vijaya Bhaskar, Social Welfare department principal secretary Kumar Nayak and other senior officials were present during the review.

Rs 23 laccompensation to families of 7 drowned

The Chief Minister has directed payment of a total compensation of Rs 23 lac to the bereaved families of seven persons who died due to drowning in three separate incidents in Mandya district on Sunday.

The compensation is being released from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

The deceased persons who have been granted compensation are: Smt Geetha, Miss Savitha and Sowmya (Rs 5 lac each) from Beeranahalli of Nagamangala taluk; and Miss Rashmi and Inchara of Cholasandra village in the same taluk, Abhishek of Huli Ganganahalli of KR Pet taluk and Kumar of Adihalli village of the same taluk (Rs 2 lac each).
