NRI businessman from Kerala Ajith Thayyil jumps to death in Sharjah

Daijiworld Media Network - Sharjah (SP)

Sharjah, Jun 24: A native of Kerala involved with business and residence here ended his life by jumping down from a business tower in the emirate of Sharjah on June 22. News channels quoted the Sharjah police as confirming that the man, identified as Ajith Thayyil, had indeed committed suicide.

Ajith was the director of Space Solutions International group. He stayed at the Meadows in the city. He was also the director of Kerala Premier League Dubai (KPL Dubai) T-20 tournament, which was abandoned.

On Monday morning, Thayyil reached Sharjah in his car and jumped down from a tower. The spot he chose to end his life falls under Buhairah police station. Some people who were passing by the tower saw the businessman lying on the ground and sounded the police.

Al Qassimi Hospital where he was taken confirmed that the man was not alive when brought to the hospital by the police. Police sources said that the body was taken for forensic post-mortem.

Thayyil's company, Space Max Contracting, was a design and build contracting firm. It was well-known for manufacturing metal frames for supermarkets and godowns of hypermarkets.

The Kerala businessman has left behind his wife and two children. His son reportedly has completed his education in the UK and his daughter is studying here, it is gathered. It is also learnt that Thayyil's family was unaware about the fact that he had left home so early on Monday.

Like Joy Arakkal from Kerala, who committed suicide recently, who had a palatial house in Wayanad district of Kerala, Thayyil had built a palatial house in Kannur district, it is learnt.

Kerala-based businessman, Joy Arakkal, had ended his life in the UAE. In that incident too, Joy had jumped to his death from a tower. He was an industrialist.

Many expressed surprise and disbelief at the decision taken by Thayyil to end his life. His friends recalled that when Joy ended his life, Thayyil had expressed shock and surprise at the decision taken by the man to commit suicide. They said that Thayyil had confessed with them about certain business-related issues but the problems he faced were not very different from what others are facing currently. The general opinion is that he would not have been in a financial crisis that could have forced him to take this extreme step.

Very sad. RIP. In business 'small is beautiful'. Condolences to the bereaved family members. Committing suicide is not an answer to life's problems. Those under stress should speak and confide with someone whom they feel will understand them.

    Agree with you.

Moreover, fame is a curse, which many of the celebrities and businessmen do not understand.
It is not only money makes them depressed and commit suicide but the reputation in the society, they cannot face people after that.

    So sad.

    RIP Ajith

RIP. Suicide thoughts are very serious kind of infection. Whatever be the situation it is WRONG and UNACCEPTABLE act. When well know people commit suicide, it slowly infects many with " I too" thoughts specially during serious problems and depression. " Such a big person committed suicide, I too.....". More awareness is required to clean such infection. Experts should advise.
