Udupi: Retired bank employee commits suicide by jumping in Papanashini River

Udupi, Jul 6: A retired bank employee here has put an end to his life by jumping into the Papanashini River, Udyavar.

Shekar Poojary, the deceased, was an employee at IDBI bank Udupi. He had taken voluntary retirement from the bank a month ago. As per sources, Poojary would consume large amounts of alcohol while at home.

On July 4 at about 4 pm he told his wife that he would go to Katpady and return. As he did not come back, enquiries about his whereabouts were made with the neighbours and relatives. Meanwhile, a person named Prakash made a phone call on July 6 at 10 am, to Poojary's 19-year-old son Praveen, informing him of the dead body of his father found on the banks of Papanashini River, Udyavara, Uppugudde.

Poojary had consumed a large quantity of alcohol and was in depression for an unknown reason since July 4. He is said to have committed suicide by jumping in the Papanashini river between 4 pm on July 4 and 10 am on July 6.

A case in this connection has been registered in Kaup police station under UDR No. 20/2020 column 174 CRPC on the basis of the complaint lodged by Praveen Poojary, son of the deceased.
