Covid scare: Special remand court for accused in B'luru

Bengaluru, Jul 6 (IANS): The Karnataka High Court has set up a special remand court in Bengaluru to produce the accused for hearing as per the standard operating procedure to prevent the coronavirus spread, an official said on Monday.

"As ordered by the Chief Justice, a dedicated special remand court with transparent partitions has been set up at the Guru Nanak Bhavan in the city's Vasantnagar to produce the accused, including undertrial prisoners for remand or bail," said the high court's registrar general in a statement here.

When an accused has to be produced in a trial court for hearing, the magistrate will hold sitting in the remand court.

"Safety measures for producing the arrested person or under trial prisoner should be taken care of in compliance with the Covid-19 guidelines Aissued by the government,a said the registrar.

The special court will minimise risk of the virus spread to trial court judges.

A public hall outside the court complex has been kept open for magistrates to take up remand matters for their safety and of the judicial staff./Eom/170 words.
