Mangaluru: Fallen tree crushes house as coastal region soaks in rain

Mangaluru, Jul 8: Monsoon gained momentum in the coastal region of Karnataka on Tuesday, July 7. Various regions in the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi experienced good rains.

The city received good rainfall with gaps in between. Sunny and cloudy weather alternated during the gaps. Reports of good rains were received from Beltangady, Puttur, Bantwal, Sullia, Ullal and places around them.

A fallen tree crushed a major part of the house belonging to Karunakar living near the hostel at Moodbidri. Karunakar suffered some injuries. MLA Umanath Kotian visited the spot soon after the incident. Most parts of the coast saw intensified rainfall in the evening. Karkala, Kundapur, Byndoor and Brahmavar taluks got usual rains during the day but in the evening, rains pounded them hard.

Malnad areas of Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu districts also received copious rainfall. The meteorological department which has already issued yellow alert int the coast from June 8 to 12 has predicted good rainfall in almost all places in the coast, a few places in south interior Karnataka and some more in north interior Karnataka. This prediction is valid until Thursday morning.
