Pakistanis Delighted at Support from Indian Fans

New Delhi, March 2 (IANS) The Pakistani hockey team was delighted to find the Indian fans supporting them in their World Cup Pool B match against Spain at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here Tuesday.

Pakistan's veteran player Sohail Abbas said it was a great feeling and he and his teammates felt that they were playing in Lahore or Karachi. Sohail made the comment after his team's 2-1 victory over the Spaniards.

"After a long time, we found some crowd support in India. It was a great feeling and we felt as if we are playing in Lahore or Karachi," said the star dragflicker.

Having lost their first match to India, the win against Spain has brightened Pakistan's hopes of fighting for a semi-final berth from their pool.

"The pool has opened now and after Australia's loss to England in the first game, it seems that every team has a chance of making the semis," he said.

The veteran defender went on to add that Pakistan were taking one game at a time and will quickly put this victory behind them.

"We will put this victory behind us and prepare for the next match. We are not thinking of the semi-final or the final. We are taking one game at a time," he said.

Shaheen I agree with you. I am a hard core Indian but I have many Pakistani friends in Dubai who love India. They are in awe of Indian movies and a big fan of Sachin Tendulkar. They are equally a victim of terror and feel very sad when something happens in India.

I am so glad that I live in Dubai and know the true meaning of humanity. If India does not win the world cup I would want the cup to stay in Asia atleast. All said and done I am very emotional when it comes to India and I visit my hometown Mumbai every year.

Nikhil- Just keep it as sports! you are not the authority to give judgements on someone patriotism. many in Pakistan love Ashwariya Rai means they are traitors? Mukesh was followed like a legend and still is, means Pak people were traitors to their land? I am from Pakistan, it was sad to see Pakistan ranked 7th go down to 12 seed India, bhut part of me was happy to see awesome Asian Hockey. If tomorrow India will play Spain, i will side team India for the match!
tendu scored 200 and i congratulate you for that! lol

Dear Satishnaik,dubai- I knew there are more broad-minded people in India like U than the whole world-its our culture no matter what religion we follow-its the real Hindutva(or Barathiyathey)-encompassing all who live in India-whether they are temporarily ignorant or not. Like Janet, dubai said United V Stand,Divided V Fall. Let us not create enemies from within, we already have enough at our throat. With Love V can win the whole world, than through hatred & violence. Bye for now.

DO not agree with NIkhil Puthran's statement saying those who support Pakistan’s Hockey game are traitors. Very cynic and rigid mentality. Mr. Nikil do u ever lived and worked in the Gulf. Pakstani's are as good as North Indians. Their attiutde, culture almost the same. Might be food habits and religion. Supporting a game is not bad as well as supporting a team on the basis as SAARC is good, but on the basis of religion it is not a good sign.
In football I support Brzial and Argetina because they play much more technical game and the majority too supports these team and I love this country because they belong to world country.

I wish educated people like Nikhil would exercise more restraint while dealing with issues such as the one dealt. No-one has the power to change the past. You can however start influencing the future. The western world"s moto is "United we stand". I think it is about time we learnt the true meaning and value of these simple three words. The normal public is all cool in both countries...it"s just that some people feel the need to terrorise. Everyday there is a rape or molestation taking place in India, does that mean all Indians are rapist???? Let us limit ourself to curse the Terrorist than to everyone in the neighbour land. Please dont mix sports with politics and make it dirty.
