Udupi: Failure to Keep Word - Advocate Serves Notice on Minister Muniyappa

Udupi, Mar 10: Senior advocate from the city, Benedict Norohna, has served a legal notice on behalf of the people of the district, to union minister, K H Muniyappa, for his failure to meet the promises he had made to the people when he was the minister of state for railways.

Some of the failed promises listed out in the notice are, failure to extend Bangalore-Mangalore train to Karwar and Goa, starting of a day-train between Bangalore and Mangalore and then extending it to Byndoor, and extending Mumbai-Karwar train to Mangalore.

“As the promises were made before the budget was presented, we had felt happy. However, none of the promises have been met in the railway budget. We are compelled to conclude that being a representative of the state in the union ministry, you had doled out promises here and then kept quiet at Delhi,” the advocate has remarked.

The notice reminds Muniyappa that having taken oath as a member of parliament to work for the interests of the people, and then sworn as a union minister, he had forgotten his commitment to meet the promises and assurances, which tantamount to defrauding people through fake promises. Muniyappa has been alerted about his constitutional responsibilities to hold discussions with railway minister, Mamata Banerjee, to meet the promises he had made. “There is a provision to file writ petition against you if you do not take steps to meet the aspirations of the people based on your promises. I am sure, you will take prudent steps to avoid such a step,” Noronha added in the notice.

The advocate has also endorsed copies of the notice to Lok Sabha speaker, Meira Kumar, AICC general secretary, Rahul Gandhi and AICC president, Sonia Gandhi.

Excellent, whatever the motives it is very important. Also we should sue all those responsible individuals who had made promises and not kept the same.

A very good step in right direction. The same must be brought to a logical conclusion because it is not whether politicians work or not - at least they should stop fooling the public.
Wishing the Advocate all the Best.
