Mangalore, Mar 11:
The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) held a meeting to discuss the problems of the public transport system, primarily the bus service in the district, on Wednesday March 10, in the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office in the city.

Such a meet was held after nearly one year. V Ponnuraj, DC of the district, and also the chairman of RTA, briefed about the meeting and said that there were no options to take up at the meetings because the new route formation has not been taken up as far as the high court rulings are concerned.

“In this meeting also there were 141 applications discussed along with the applications of 500 for bus routes, but no decision is being taken due to the high court stay”, he added.

“In the meeting bus operators applications for change of old routes and new route formation were discussed, but the meeting has not come to any conclusion on the matter”, he said.

“The land acquisition of 7.5 acres for new bus stand at Pumpwell has been done and there will be acquisition of 11 acres in second phase. The new bus stand will be a transportation hub where all buses including private, interstate, and state buses will be available for the public”, added the DC.

Regional transport officer Purushotttam, and superintendent of police Dr Subrahmanyeswara Rao were present.
