Udupi: Facebook user loses Rs 3,53,000 in scam

Udupi, Aug 28: A Facebook user trusting a Facebook friend whom he never met lost Rs 3,53,000. The incident is said to have occurred on August 24.

David Paul Kumar (53), s/o late Samuel Amanna, residing in Nadsal village in Padubidri is employed in Maxworth Retread tyre company, Kolnad, Mulki. He came in contact with a woman on Facebook named Joan Sherry Maxwell who made David believe that she is sending him a valuable gift parcel on his birthday. Later, a woman from the Delhi airport made a call to David that the parcel was received but an amount of Rs 58,000 was to be remitted to the bank account before she could send the parcel. David who trusted her transferred the amount to the account. No sooner yet another woman posing as an Income Tax officer gave details of another bank account asking David to send Rs 2,95,000 for Income Tax clearance. David transferred that amount also.

On realising that he had been conned, David Paul Kumar lodged a police complaint at the Sen crime police station and accused the women of defrauding him of Rs 3,53,000. A case under crime serial No. 52/2020 under section 66 (c) and 66 (d) IT act has been registered in the police station.

    It is a common trick used by people who know certain person is having money .or try to trick one .when the person bites in this ,then it continue further.How many times it happened and with lotterie,and some again again fall in this well.Govt warns always .Not to reply is the best way.Noone has anything to give gift to someone .Now he has learnt his lesson,sad,atleast didnt loose everything I hope.Greed is not good.

    In today's economic crisis, can you imagine anybody sending you any valuable gift's. Must be a crazy guy to pay INR 350000/- to claim a gift.
