Mumbai, Aug 29: The Ganesh visarjan, although an integral part of the celebration results in beaches being polluted affecting also the marine life until recent years many active and aware Mumbaikars took up the issue to clean up the beaches post visarjan.

This year the visarjan saw another turn after people took up the visarjan locally within their societies.

Chinu Kwatra, a social activist who has been active in keeping the Mumbai beaches clean for few years now, has taken another initiative and with the help of his team members turned a damaged swimming pool of a housing society into an artificial pond.

Speaking on this initiative Kwatra said, "Last three years we had been taking out broken and damaged ganpati idols from beaches after the festival. It would be sad to see the idols. This year we have created an artificial pond to facilitate visarjan. I had wanted to do this since long because I believe that if we can create maximum ponds, then we could do all visarjan in these ponds thereby keeping our beaches naturally clean. These beaches will be spared and so will the marine life. And most importantly the idols will not have to suffer breakage and disrespect".
