Udupi: Poster presentation held to create awareness on eye donation

Udupi, Aug 31: Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, celebrated the 35th National Eye Donation fortnight by a poster presentation. The theme for the year is 'Let’s make a difference by donating our eyes'. It was jointly inaugurated by C G Muthana, COO, Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent Kasturba Hospital, Manipal. Dr Sulatha Bhandary, professor, and head of the department of Ophthalmology Kasturba Hospital, Manipal and Dr Manali Hazarika, assistant professor and executive medical director, eye bank Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, Sachin Karanth, head of marketing were present. Banners and posters were displayed at various places in the hospital to create awareness on eye donation.

Dr Avinash Shetty said, “Blindness is a great problem that Indians are facing for many years and national eye donation fortnight aims to eliminate this problem to a certain extent and motivate people to pledge their eyes.”

Dr Sulatha Bhandary said, “The National Eye Donation Fortnight is celebrated every year from August 25 to September 8 under the national programme for 'Control of Blindness'. Our main purpose is to give vision to those with corneal blindness. Let us give a message to the people to donate eyes or pledge eyes to those who are with corneal blindness. The theme for the year is 'Let’s make difference by donating our eyes'.
