Mumbai, Sep 5: International sculptor hailing from Udupi, resident of Mumbai, Diwaker Rama Shetty (63), passed away at his Charkop residence on Friday morning after a brief illness.

He was well known for wooden sculptures of deities, animals and nature. He was titled ‘metal man of India’. He was commended for his amazing art in India and abroad. Karnataka Sangha, Mumbai had felicitated him with ‘Sadhana Shikhara’ award in 2015. Kannada department of Mumbai University had honoured him with a gold medal.

He has left behind his wife, two sons and a large number of friends and relatives. Head of the Kannada department, Mumbai University Dr G N Upadhya, Dr Poornima S Shetty, veteran dramatist Mohan Marnad, Karnataka Sangha Mumbai office bearers, Kannadiga Patrakartara Sangha, Maharashtra joint secretary Jayarama N Shetty and others have condoled his death.
