Udupi, Apr 2: In an incident that looked like a scene picked from a Bollywood flick, a woman, who was abducted from the courtyard of her home in Udyavar Bolargudde on Thursday April 1 morning, was dropped off by the kidnappers late in the evening the same day, at Udupi. Allegedly, the first husband of Vaishali, who had divorced her and married the first wife of her current husband, had abducted her.

A Krishnamurty, working in a milk dairy, had married Mukta from Pitrody here, in 1993. The couple had two children, Akshay and Amrita. When Krishnamurty was transferred to Belgaum and lived there in a rented house, reportedly, his wife Mukta got involved in a love affair with Khandoba, owner of their house. Krishnamurty applied for divorce in 1998. In the meantime, Vaishali, wife of Khandoba, also approached the court for a divorce. After both the couples got the divorce and the husbands paid the compensations as ordered, Mukta married Khandoba. Later, Krishnamurty married Vaishali and started living in Udyavar.

Vaishali went missing while sweeping her courtyard on Thursday morning and her scattered footwear gave an indication that she had been taken away forcibly. Krishmurty filed a complaint in Kaup station, alleging that Khandoba had kidnapped her. Late evening on Thursday, Krishnamurty got a call over his mobile from Vaishali, who said amidst tears, that she was in Udupi and that she would reach home later. She came back at around 7.30 am. As she was in a state of shock, she could not reveal anything at that time.

Family sources said that Vaishali will give a statement to the policemen about who kidnapped her, and why she was sent back etc., on Friday April 2.
