Worst is Over for Air India: Praful Patel

New Delhi, April 13 (IANS) Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel Tuesday said Air India has cut its losses by 25 percent and the worst is over for the national carrier.

"The worst is over for Air India. The airline has managed to bring down losses from Rs.400 crore every month to Rs.300 crore," Patel told reporters on the sidelines of the US-India Business Council meet organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry.

Patel had last month informed the Rajya Sabha that Air India would incur losses of around $1.8 billion (Rs.5,400 crore) this fiscal. The carrier had lost $445.2 million (Rs.2,226.16 crore) in 2007-08 and $1.11 billion (Rs.5,548 crore) in 2008-09.

Patel said the carrier will get an additional Rs.1,200 crore in the current fiscal as announced in the budget.

The government has approved equity infusion of $160 million (Rs.800 crore) for the ailing carrier in two instalments to tide over the cash flow problem and finance its fleet acquisition plans.

Patel also said that terminal three at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport will be inaugurated on July 3 by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA (United Progressive Alliance) chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

IN THE DICTIONARY OF UPA WORDS LIKE PROFIT & DEVELOPMENT ARE MISSING.

MOST OF THE PSUEDOS ARE HAPPY WITH THE LOSS OF RS. 300 CRORES PER MONTH.

THEY ARE HAPPY IN SELLING SUGAR @RS. 12.50 & BUYING THE SAME SUGAR @ RS. 30.

THEY ARE HAPPY IN PRICE RISE OF ESSENTIAL COMMODITY & MOST HAPPY IN GIVING TROUBLE TO POOR & COMMON MAN.

Worst is over because of the subsidy from the tax payers money. Worst will come again and again unless and until the attitudes of Air India staff change and the politicians stop abusing their travel priviledges.
I travelled once in 2006 and decided not to step in again. The Air attendants have too much head wieght. Air India need to replace them with trained Waiters/Waitresses from the local hotels.

    Guys,

If staff need to smile all the time in every situation, they should be sent to training with Dr Oscar, Dr Moily and Mr DVS Gowda, as long as they dont learn their "other" habbits.

Many people tell me that, these people themself dont know why they are smiling many times!!!

"Laughter is best medicine", keep smiling......

What we are reading is history. Air India have been incurring losses for a long time. Bringing the losses down from 400 crores to 300 crores is no doubt an achievement. However when will this Airline make profits or will it remain a dream. Air India was a Tata enterprise originally. Why not hand it over to The Tatas for management for three years and see the outcome.

Two Article/news on same website same day......
One about bringing down losses from Rs.400 crore every month to Rs.300 crore by air India.

Onother AirAsia, which has some 7,000 staff with no union, reported a consolidated turnover of RM 7 billion (around $2.16 billion) in 2009 and it made a profit of RM 600 million ($185 million). This is why people like Anthony "Tony" Francis Fernandes are shining outside India.

Wake up Air India, bring the name back to its origin. Training your staff is must. Smile in any situation is very important. Service is the key factor. Compitition is must, so go for a discounted price and let everybody feel to travel with you.   Good luck Air India. Many more Crores to recover. Act now.
