Mangaluru, Oct 5: An incident from the city which is claimed to be another evidence to prove that the system of bonded labour is still being practiced, has surfaced. In this incident, a girl had escaped from the house where she was made to work, reached the road, and pleaded with the passers-by to help her. Some locals who noticed her, had called the Childline.

An NGO named 'Odanadi' has accused the Barke police of visiting the house where the girl was made to work and returning without taking any action. The girl had later visited this NGO and complained about this fact.

It is said that this girl, who is of Mysuru origin, was working as a bonded labour. Odanadi, Mysuru, has since filed complaint with Karnataka State Commission for the protection of child rights, duly naming an entrepreneur from the city as the accused. Child Welfare Committee president, Renny D'Souza, said that after the complaint from the said organization about the girl having been kept as bonded labour was received, the deputy commissioner received instruction from the state child welfare committee to investigate the complaint. "We have set the process rolling. We are yet to put together evidence," he clarified.

Deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, Dr Rajendra K V, said that further action will be taken after looking into the case in detail.
