Udupi, Oct 7: Fraudsters have resorted to innovative ways to dupe their victims.

K Nagaraj Bhat here had received a scratch coupon by post on March 29, 2019, in the name of Naaptol company stating that he has won Rs 12 lac. The letter stated that he will get the money once he calls the mobile number mentioned on the coupon and pays the registration charges. Nagaraj remitted Rs 12,000 as registration charges on April 4, 2019, to the bank account number mentioned in the letter.

He subsequently received calls from Amith Biswas and Chetan Kumar from different telephone numbers causing Nagaraj to believe that they are speaking from Naaptol company. They said that Nagaraj has to remit GST tax, verification charge and sub charge to get the amount. They made Nagaraj remit Rs 26,47,650 to various bank accounts between April 4, 2019, and July 28, 2019. However, in the end, they neither paid the winning amount nor refunded the amount remitted by him. Following which Nagaraj registered a police complaint in Udupi Sen police station under crime No. 61/2020 section 66 (c), 66 (d) IT Act and section 420 IPC.
