Belagavi: 1.5 kg gold found on body that came floating in river

Belagavi, Oct 9: In an incident which happened in River Krishna in Avarakoda village of Athani taluk in the district on October 4, a body came floating. The incident was reported with inordinate delay.

The body was identified to be that of Sagar Patil (30) from Patagaon village, Miraj taluk, Sangli, Maharashtra. After noticing that the body was deposited on the bank of the river, the villagers conveyed information to the police. The police, during the inquest, found 1.5 kg gold in the form of solid blocks on the body.

As injury marks were found on the body, this is suspected to be a case of murder. The body was later handed over to the family. Deputy superintendent of police, Girish V S, said that a case has been registered and investigation is on. However, it is not yet certain whether this is a case of murder or not.
