Bengaluru, Oct 9: The state government told the high court on Thursday, October 8 that it is taking steps to make partial payment to IMA depositors.

This information was provided to a division bench of the high court comprising Chief Justice A S Oka and Justice Ashok S Kinagi which is looking into several public interest litigations filed relating to the case.

Advocate Vijayakumar Patil arguing on behalf of the government stated that steps are being taken to partially refund the money invested by depositors in the IMA. He also said that the central government has been requested to confirm the Aadhar details of the depositors. "Once the confirmation comes, we will proportionately distribute the money currently available," he clarified.

On this occasion, the bench scrutinized the fifth investigation progress report filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation relating to the case in June this year. CBI counsel Prasannakumar agreed that there has been sluggishness in the investigation because of lockdown and coronavirus effects. The bench observed that it has been over three months since the last report was filed and asked for the submission of the sixth progress report before October 20 in a sealed cover.

The bench also instructed the government to file a detailed affidavit about having complied with the order passed by the bench on March 5 this year. The hearing was adjourned to October 21 after instructing the government to file a report about the actions taken since the beginning till October 15.
