Over 50 Lakh Tonnes Wheat Arrives in Haryana Markets


Chandigarh, Apr 19 (IANS): Over 50 lakh tonnes of wheat has arrived in grain markets across Haryana in the first 18 days of the procurement season this year, food and supplies department officials said Sunday.

Over 99 percent of the total arrival of wheat, 47.61 lakh tonnes till Saturday evening, has been procured by government agencies while traders have procured only 1,060 tonnes, Food and Supplies Minister Mahender Partap Singh said here.

While five government procurement agencies are from the Haryana government, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) is from the central government.

Singh said that Karnal district led in wheat arrival with 5.89 lakh tonnes, followed by Jind with 5.20 lakh tonnes, and Kaithal district with 5.12 tonnes.
