Udupi: Liquor merchants protest by refraining from buying alcohol for sale

Udupi, Oct 14: “Liquor merchants in the state are facing several issues due to coronavirus and lockdown,” said Federation of Liquor Merchants Association chief secretary B Govindaraj Hegde.

He said that they have brought to the notice of the government their problems several times in writing. “The government instead of taking decisions in our favour decides against us. The government remains indifferent if we ask for compensation over loss suffered by us due to lockdown. On the contrary it is thinking of online sales. The harassment by officials also has crossed limits. The government has failed to consider any of our demands.”

"The liquor merchants have not bought liquor for sale today in protest. The government has recently extended the expiry date for consumption of beer. Who will be responsible if it adversely affects the health of consumers because of that?" questioned Govindaraj Hegde.

    Biggest joke the above person is most concerned about the health of the customers.
    He also mentions there was a boycott to purchase liquor from the wholesalers. During lock down they have done bumper business by manipulating the rules and prices.

    These liquor merchants are trying to cheat the government by asking compensation. During lockdown these merchants sold our their entire stock from the back door for very high price and made huge profit. Lockdown came to them as blessings. Liquor bottles were sold 3 to 4 times more than the MRP.
    Now these people are making a Nautanky. Government should and must open online liquor sale of its own to get more profit and buy selling on MRP the citizens will get benefit. Now some of the liquor shops are cheating the public by selling the liquor more than the MRP. Also government should open more MSIL outlets to help the public.
