Kaup, Oct 15: ““Over 22 months have passed without administration of elected representatives in Kaup municipal council and the rule of officials continues. The delay tactics of the administration have curtailed development and there is the fear of the misuse of funds brought by the previous government,” said former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake.

He was speaking after leading protests held in front of Kaup municipal council on Thursday demanding for effective implementation of the developmental works approved by the previous government and opposing the sudden increase of various cesses.

“Important works worth more than Rs 75 crore approved during the previous government in Kaup municipal council and project authority limits have stopped. Funds reserved for the progress of scheduled caste and scheduled tribe are being transferred to Karkala municipal council. The amount approved during the term of the previous MLA for the development is being diverted to other works. Water cess, house and commercial tax, MESCOM bill, trade license rates and commercial building taxes have been increased exponentially. The Congress party opposes it,” he said.

KPCC secretary Dr Deviprasad Shetty said that there are attempts to transfer to other works and areas amount worth several crores released during the term of the previous MLA. “People have expressed anguish over them. Council officials and elected representatives should wake up before people get down to streets to protest,” he said.
