Kundapur: Confinement, rape of lady - Man sentenced to seven years imprisonment

Kundapur, Oct 16: A person named Shankar Naik was accused of illegally entering the house of a lady at Hosangady in the taluk when she was alone four years ago, confining her inside the house and raping her. The additional district and sessions court judge Narahari Prabhakar Marathe, who conducted the trial, found that the charges levelled against the accused were proved and held Naik guilty of the offences. Through a judgement, he handed down seven years of imprisonment to the guilty.

Naik was charged with gatecrashing into the residence of the said 19-year-old at Hosangady on September 18, 2016, forcibly restricting her movements and raping her against her will on September 18, 2016. A complaint had then been filed in Amasebail police station and the then police circle inspector had investigated the case and filed the charge sheet in the court. Forensic reports and statements made by the aggrieved lady supported the claims of the prosecution.

The court imposed Rs 5,000 fine and seven-year imprisonment for rape, and six months imprisonment for illegal entry and confining the lady. The prosecution was represented in the case by Udupi district public prosecutor, Prakashchandra Shetty Belur.
