Bengaluru, Oct 17: The city police have heaved a sigh of relief after finding the torso of a man thousands of km away from where the head was found. The case, which was haunting the police personnel of Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh for 12 days has seen some major development with this recovery.

The deceased was Ravi Markam (28) from Betul, Madhya Pradesh. His relatives performed the funeral of the torso while the police cremated the head.

When cleaning the Rajdhani Express train at Bengaluru railway station on October 4, the severed head of a man was found under the engine. The railway and Karnataka police were contacted. The police who collected the head preserved it. The police also sent messages to all the railway stations in the country about the recovery. Policemen of Madhya Pradesh said that on October 3, the torso of a man was found at Machna railway station. Two police personnel of the railway station here went to Madhya Pradesh along with the picture of the head. The two matched and it was found to be the head of Ravi Markam, whose remaining portion of the body was found in Madhya Pradesh. His parents confirmed the identity.

The torso was then handed over to the family for funeral. Because of financial constraints the parents did not come to Bengaluru to collect the head and the family consented for the funeral by the police. The police performed the funeral at the graveyard at Guddadahalli on Friday October 16, a senior railway police officer said.

The parents claimed that Ravi was mentally unstable. The police of Amla station in Madhya Pradesh are investigating the cause of death.
