Ramanagara, Oct 21: Perhaps to stymie any efforts from the side of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, D K Shivakumar, from raking up more issues to the discomfiture of the state government, the government has appointed a retired judge to assess loss to public property suffered during the violent protests which happened duirng the agitation against the arrest of Shivakumar by enforcement directorate officials last year.

The income tax department, which had probed into the case relating to amassing of illegal wealth standing against Shivakumar, had asked the enforcement directorate to investigate it. The enforcement directorate had arrested Shivakumar. Condemning his arrest, Congress workers had held protests all over the state including Ramanagara, his home district. As per a report, public property worth about Rs 82 crore was lost due to this violent lprotest.

Cases against over 100 persons were registered for causing loss of property. The state government had said that it proposes to recover the losses to public property from those who indulged in disturbances.
