Bengaluru: Cyber crime - man befriends on facebook, blackmailed for money

Bengaluru, Oct 26: A person developed friendship of a man disguising as woman through Facebook, has now been blackmailed by the person concerned for money after collecting his personal photos.

A 51-year-old man from Palace Guttahalli here has been taken for a ride by the cyber criminals. The central crime branch polcice have registered a case.

The complainant works for a private company. He got introduced to a lady claiming to be Nidhi Sha Patel, on Facebook. Later, the two chatted on Facebook messenger and exchanged telephone numbers. The lady used to chat with the man on WhatsApp almost everyday freely. During these times she also collected personal photos and videos of the person. After a few days, the man received these personal photos through another number with the threat that unless he pays Rs 21,000, the photos and videos would be uploaded in social websites and threatened to send them to his friends and relatives and sully his reputation. The man, who developed cold feet, sent Rs 7,000 through PhonePe. Even thereafter they continued to pester him for money. Thereafter he decided to take them on and filed police complaint.
