Udupi: Fisherman sleeping in boat goes missing, complaint filed

Udupi, Oct 28: A complaint is filed at the Malpe police station near here that a fisherman, who was sleeping in the boat, along with others went missing on the night of October 24.

The fisherman who went missing is Sandesha Vittala Dobre (33). He was working at the Vara boat, owned by Ashok G Salian of Malpe.

According to the FIR filed by Vinayaka Babaiah Harikantha, son of Babaiah, resident of Horabaga village, Kumta taluk, Uttara Kannada district, Sandesha had come back to Malpe fishing port on the night of October 23 along with others in the boat. On the morning of October 24, he and other fishermen had emptied the fish in the boat and put ice into the boat and slept around 11 pm in the boat itself. However, when the complainant got up at 6.30 am on October 25, Sandesh Vittala Dobre was missing. Though the other fishermen on the boat searched for him everywhere, he could not be found.

It is suspected that Sandesha might have accidentally fallen into the water from the boat or might have gone somewhere else without informing the other people on the boat.

A case under Sl no 87/2020 and column missing man is registered at Malpe police station.
