Mangaluru: Defamation suit filed against Kishan Hegde Kolkebail

Mangaluru, Oct 30: The second JMFC court here has issued summons to Kishan Hegde Kolkebail, former director of South Canara District Central Cooperative (SCDCC) Bank Ltd for publishing letters containing libellous content about the bank.

SCDCC Bank happens to be the source bank for the cooperative banks in the two districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. Kishan Hegde Kolkebail had functioned as director and vice president of this bank in the past. He had been disqualified from the board of directors of the bank as per an order issued by the joint registrar of cooperative societies for violating rules and regulations of the copoerative societies by Kolkebail.

It is said that the accused, who had differences with SCDCC Bank with the purpose of defaming the bank by letter and also email and mobile purposefully dispatched information with the particular aim of sullying the bank's standing and the letters contained false, libellous and imaginary reports, it is said.

The accused is aware that the contents of the letter referred above are false and he had got the letters printed with the specific aim of spoiling the reputation of the bank. The bank, through its advocate had sent notice to Kolkebail. He had replied, duly admitting having sent the letters and justifying the contents of the letter. The bank had filed private petition in the court through advocates, P P Hegde Associates, complaining about defaming the bank. The court which registered case against Kishan Hegde under sections 500 and 501 of the Indian Penal Code, has served the said summons.
