Bengaluru: Ministers express against re-opening schools

Bengaluru, Nov 13: The state cabinet meeting has expressed the firm opinion that schools need not be opened for the present as COVID-19 scare continues to haunt the state now.

The issue came up casually for consideration during the cabinet meeting held here on Thursday, November 12. It is learnt that the ministers asserted that there is a need to tread carefully in the matter. They said that there shoud not be any hurry on this issue. All the senior members of the ministry were firm on this matter, it is gathered.

It has been seven months since the schools were closed because of coronavirus scare. The department of public instruction has already met educationists, members of school development and monitoring committees, teachers, leaders of teacher organizations, heads of private schools, parents etc. The commissioner in the department has filed an integrated report on the issue.

The meeting however did not favour opening of schools because of the COVID infections. A few ministers raised the topic of opening of schools but the general opinion which emerged was that schools should not be opened under the current circumstances.
