Beltangady: Man attacked, robbed of Rs 1.5 lac

Beltangady, Nov 26: In an incident which happened at the Kaikamba bus shelter in Navoor village within the limits of Beltangady police station, two unidentified persons sprayed some unknown powder at the eyes of a shopkeeper and robbed him of Rs 1.5 lac in cash. This incident happened on the night of Tuesday November 24.

Krishnappa Gowda, a resident of Daddu in Navoor, runs a shop near Kaikamba bus shelter. He had shut down his shop on Tuesday night and was proceeding to his house in his two-wheeler when two people who came from the sides of a petty shop located behind Krishnappa's shop moved closer to Krishnappa and sprayed a white powder into his eyes. They then hit his hands, legs and head with a rod before snatching away the loan amount he had withdrawn from the bank and the business collection of the day, totalling to about Rs 1.5 lac and ran away. In addition to the cash, a bag containing records and the key of the shop were also snatched away from him.

Krishnappa raised an alarm when he was attacked. The locals who rushed there, took him to a private hospital at Ujire. After initial care, he was taken to a private hospital at Mangaluru for advanced treatment.
