Bengaluru, Dec 5: In protest against the central government's decision to allow Ayurveda doctors to perform certain surgeries, allopathic doctors led by Indian Medical Association (IMA) have decided to undertake a strike on December 11 by suspending outpatient department services of private hospitals from 6 am to 6 pm. However, emergency treatments and COVID-related services will be available.

Last month, the central government had allowed Ayurveda doctors to perform surgeries that are not complicated like appendicitis, removal of growths that are not dangerous, performing root canal of the teeth etc. Postgraduate Ayurveda doctors who have undergone practical training can undertake these procedures. The allopathic doctors say that this will create problems for the patients. Demanding withdrawal of the permission by the central government, doctors under the leadership of IMA, will wear black badges on December 8 when serving to register their protest, said Karnataka branch IMA secretary, Dr S M Prasad.
