Kundapur, Dec 5: “Several castes are not included in the eligible lists. Their educational and social status will be studied on department level in order to decide their groups,” said state backward class commission president Jayaprakash Hegde. He was speaking in a meeting on backward classes held by the president himself in Kundapur taluk panchayat auditorium.

“Details will be submitted to the respective department commissioner if a particular caste should be included in a group. Attempts were made for the last several years to include the Kudumbi community to scheduled tribes. There are many castes like them. Local PDO and village accountant should find out and inform us so that we can conduct a scrutiny,” he said.

“It is necessary to stress for management of backward class student hostels. Schools and colleges are not reopened due to Covid-19. The hostels should be maintained now arranging beds, bed sheets, toilets etc so that students do not face problems in the future. I will visit the hostels in the company of the commissioner in the future,” he said.

“The revenue department and forest department should work in coordination to solve 94C and deemed forest problems. Who is responsible if the land is considered deemed forest after a person stays there? A solution should be found for it,” he said.

Answering reporters on the demand for Kundapur district, he said that the government should decide about it. “The formation of Udupi district resulted with visits made by Jadkal, Mudoor, Shiroor and other village residents to the centre convenient. I have written to Mangaluru University to open Kundukannada study centre last year. Meetings about it were held in Basrur earlier,” he said.

Narasimha Poojary of backward class department was present in the meeting.
