Mumbai, Dec 15: INS Viraat will be demolished soon at the Alang ship-breaking yard in Gujarat. However, Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has requested the central government to save the historic aircraft carrier.

In a letter to union defence minister Rajnath Singh on Monday, the Shiv Sena MP said, “Let INS Viraat be a living, breathing and thriving memorial of India’s nationalism, patriotism and pride. Let us be preservers rather than destroyers of our rich history. Hence, it is my humble submission to kindly grant the NOC that would help preserve INS Viraat.”

Chaturvedi said that it would be tragic for India to lose part of its history with the destruction of INS Viraat. She maintained that the preservation of the historic aircraft carrier will be beneficial for future generations. “INS Viraat’s preservation is well merited and deserving of strong consideration by the government. It can be saved if the government of India so desires. I am certain that the state government would be happy to cooperate in restoring and preserving the historical ship,” added the Shiv Sena MP.
