Udupi, May 30: Madras University has awarded a doctorate to Kannadiga student Korlahalli Venkatesh Acharya for his Sanskrit thesis on ‘Vedokta Madwa Nirdista Yajno Jeevasya Jeevanam.’

 
The thesis was the result of a nine-year research on the sacrifices of Sri Madanandteerta Bhagavat Acharya, and has brought glory to Indian cultural hierarchy. It inspires ordinary folks to explore spiritual bliss in life. 
 
Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh conferred the doctorate on Acharya in the convocation ceremony held at Chennai recently.
 
Dr Acharya is the son of Vidwan Korlahalli Jayateerta Acharya and Vijayalaxmi Acharya, residing in Padubidri, near here.  He prepared the thesis under the guidance of Madras University campus director and reader Dr S Revati. 

He did his early schooling from S M S P Sanskrit Institute here.  He was tutored in Veda studies by his father and Sri Vidyamanyateerta Swami of Bhandarakeri and Palimar Mutts, near here.
 
Dr Acharya has contributed significantly to both Sanskrit and Kannada literature.  He is also a poet and a singer.  He has organized various camps and training classes for teachers all over the country.
 
He attributes his success to the support of his parents and his mentor Sri Vidyamanyateerta Swami.
