Mangaluru: Former MLA YSV Dutta urges state govt to provide funds for Kannada University at Hampi

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Dec 28: Former MLA and JD(S) leader YSV Datta on Monday, December 28 said that the state government should provide human resources to various government and semi-government agencies through KEONICS.

Speaking to media persons here, Datta said, "The private agency which has outsourced labourers to MESCOM is suppressing them. As private agencies provide labourers to government agencies, the labourers are at the mercy of private agencies and do not have employment security and other benefits."

He also stressed that MESCOM should extend the contract of the labourers.

Speaking on the Kannada University, Hampi, Datta said, "University at Hampi is exclusively meant for the Kannada language. As the government has stopped flowing funds to Kannada University, several cultural activities have come to a halt. But, the government is citing fund crunch as a reason for not providing financial help."

He said any government in Karnataka should give importance for the development of Kannada university.

Stating that he is not opposing or in favour of Sanskrit University, the JD(S) leader said, "The government has approved funds for Sanskrit University, it is also evident that the government is giving importance to Sanskrit University. But, the government's first priority should be Kannada University."

Hence, the state government should re-think about its decision to provide funds to Kannada University.

Slamming the youth empowerment and sports department for publishing advertisement asking the rural students to take part in various Hindi and English competitions, Datta said, "Union government along with the zilla panchayat under aegis youth empowerment and sports department is inviting the rural students to take part in essay competitions and other competitions only in English and Hindi languages. This is their effort to impose Hindi language across the southern part of India."

Speaking on JD(S) coalition with BJP, Datta said that a leader in JD(S) has already clarified it to him that there are no plans of a coalition with any of the national parties. JD(S) which was part of Janatha Parivar has its own identity in the state. Regional party in the state is a need of the hour and an alternative to other parties."

The former MLA also said that the government after holding discussions with experts on merits and demerits should announce this year as 'zero academical year' as the students and teachers do not have clarity regarding the syllabus.
